Rohan and Anjali met at a friend's Diwali party in Manhattan and argued for an hour about the best street food in Ahmedabad. Three years later he proposed on a superyacht in Dubai, and they flew one hundred of their closest people to Udaipur for three days of palaces, royal carriages and fireworks over Lake Pichola.

The Proposal

01 · Dubai Marina · New Year's Eve

The Proposal

Rohan chartered a 60-metre superyacht, covered the deck in twelve thousand white roses and proposed at midnight as the Burj Khalifa lit up the sky. The ring: a 7-carat oval diamond from Graff.

The Sangeet

Two hundred lanterns, a twelve-piece live band from Mumbai and a choreographed family dance-off that lasted until 3am.

The Royal Arrival

The Royal Arrival

The couple arrived in a hand-gilded royal carriage drawn by four white Marwari horses, followed by trumpeters and a shower of rose petals.

The Fleet

The Fleet

A fleet of five Rolls-Royce Phantoms carried the families between the palace, the lake and the ceremony terrace all weekend.

Vows under a four-storey mandap of white roses, orchids and marigolds, with crystal chandeliers and the Lake Palace glowing across the water.

The Family

Three generations of the Patel and Kapadia families together for the first time in a decade.

The Reception

07 · Night two · Palace courtyard

The Reception

Floating chandeliers, ten thousand candles, a live orchestra and a first dance that stopped the room. Dinner was a nine-course tasting by a Michelin-starred chef.

The Cake

08 · Seven tiers of gold

The Cake

Hand-painted 24-karat gold leaf, sugar orchids and pearl details, made over four days by the palace pastry team.

The Finale

I planned a palace wedding from New York and never once felt lost. The live feed meant our grandparents in Ahmedabad watched every moment.
